APHR (ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights)
APHR expressed deep sorrow over the devastation caused by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand on March 28, 2025. With 19.9 million people in urgent need of assistance in Myanmar, the earthquake has worsened an already critical humanitarian situation, affecting about 6.1 million individuals. APHR Chairperson Mercy Chriesty Barends emphasized the urgent need for immediate and impartial humanitarian aid, while APHR Board Member Arlene Brosas highlighted that no one should be denied aid due to political barriers. The organization calls for an inclusive response from ASEAN governments and international donors and urges Myanmar’s authorities to ensure access for humanitarian workers.
